The National Wildlife Federation is challenging the country to take on the #Campout2016 pledge to get outside and connect with nature. It’s all part of a summer-long celebration of camping.
Our Residents and Colleagues of Specialized Housing happily took the pledge. On a weekend in late June, we pulled out the tents, sleeping bags, lanterns, and bug spray, and set up camp sites in our own backyards. And in the days leading up to the Great American Training Campout, we even had fire safety training for our Colleagues and Residents.
At our homes, throughout the Merrimack Valley, we had cookouts, played games, relaxed by the fire, and, of course, made s’mores!
“We had so much fun,” said Resident Lang Grady.
“Our Residents had a blast enjoying the outdoors,” said residential manager Sarah Mallett.
We shared stories around the campfire, played cornhole and ladder ball, explored the nature in our own backyards, ate delicious snacks cooked over the fire, and just enjoyed the WOW! Magic of it all!
“It was a great experience, something we plan to turn into an annual tradition,” said residential manager Natasha Escribano.
