There are many ways to remember those we’ve lost, and our ATI Family recently took the time to remember our dear friend and family member Kirky through the 28th Annual Care Dimensions Walk for Hospice.
Phillip “Kirky” Hammond joined the American Training family in 2010 when he moved into one of our Specialized Housing homes. It quickly became his home and he quickly became a part of our ATI family. Kirky was full of energy and was a pleasure to have around.
Unfortunately, Kirky fell ill in 2013 and was placed on Hospice. He later passed away in August, 2014. Due to the love and compassion, not only from the Colleagues and Residents that Kirky worked and lived with, but also from Hospice, Kirky’s end of life had just as much energy as he did.
With all the energy of Kirky’s memory, Team Kirky, consisting of ATI Colleagues and Residents, participated in the Walk for Hospice this September. The team raised $350 for Care Dimensions and shared a day together, reflecting on Kirky’s memory.
“He was my boyfriend and I miss him very much,” said Resident and walk participant Jackaleen Huberdeau.
“The walk was long,” said Colleague Glismary Pacheco, “but well worth hearing stories about amazing people who have passed on with support from Hospice.”
Other walk participants included Residents Dan Smith and Linda Pearson as well as Colleagues Eduard Pena, Jankie Antigua, Lynn Bloomquist, and Stephanie Colon.
“From the Chaplin to the nurses that gave support to not only Kirky, but the Colleagues as well, I couldn’t be more proud of the Colleagues at Anne Street (a Specialized Housing home and the home where Kirky lived) for coming up with such a great idea to help such a great organization,” said Stephanie. “We look forward to helping out with this walk again next year.”
