The end of the year brings many things. Yes, it brings terribly cold weather, but many of us get to experience something much warmer. We gather with friends and family late in November to give thanks for all that we have in this world. Although many of us wish we had more, like a nicer car or a pay raise so we can go on that vacation we’ve always dreamed of, it’s important to take the time to reflect on all that we do have. That is the purpose of Thanksgiving.
What is Giving Tuesday
All too often, the turkey, stuffing, pies, cakes, and the thanks, are over shadowed. We are bombarded with advertisements for sales to get us to shop at stores the very day after Thanksgiving, and in many cases, the day of. This can make it very easy to forget the importance of the holiday, showing our appreciation and gratitude for all that we have in life.
But there is still a chance. After all the caffeine fueled chaos that is Black Friday weekend and Cyber Monday, four to five days designed to make us want more than we need, comes Giving Tuesday. Since 2012, Giving Tuesday has been an American tradition designed to have us reflect more on generosity than greed, to highlight the spirit of giving rather than the need for more for ourselves. It was designed to have us think more about those that are less fortunate than ourselves, and to make us realize how fortunate we are.
How you can be a part of the WOW! Magic
So, this Giving Tuesday, November 28, 2017, we here at American Training ask that you take the time to realize how fortunate you are. After you get your fill of warm food and sweet desserts. After you give thanks for all that you have. And yes, after you inevitably head out in that November chill to buy gifts for your loved ones, take the opportunity to give back whatever you can in whatever way you can. Whether it be donating some extra winter clothes to a Coat Drive, volunteering at a food pantry, or even as simple as clicking a button on your computer to donate a few dollars, do it. Any and everything you can do will be greatly appreciated this holiday season.
Remember to reflect on all that you have and all that you can give! Give locally this holiday season and see your generosity in action, bettering the lives of your own community members!
Happy Holidays from your friends and family at American Training!
