We count ourselves lucky to have such wonderful interns each year. And, we always want to make sure our interns have Outrageously Memorable experiences here with Unique & Different opportunities to learn and grow, and add to their resumes. So, this summer, we worked hard to give our People & Culture intern, Samantha, an unforgettable summer filled with experiences she never expected. Samantha shares her experience below.
What I did here
On my first day at American Training, I came in not knowing what to expect. I thought I would be filing and organizing things that the People & Culture department needed help with each day. But I soon found out, my internship would be so much more. I started doing things I never expected and learned a lot from it. I filed, copied, created articles, made monthly calendars, helped in company events, shadowed ATI’s very skilled occupational therapist Sharon, created blog content, and so much more! All of it provided me with experience in different ways, and much of it had me stepping outside my comfort zone.
What I learned
During my time here this summer, I learned a variety of things. I gained business experience, the skills of a successful intern, some of the skills of Colleagues who work in Day Habilitation, proper writing skills for articles, professional email etiquette, how to be efficient with my time, and so much more. The most valuable skill I learned this summer is how to be a helpful and happy Colleague. I learned that when working with others, you have to be willing to take on a challenge even if you are unsure how it will go. You have to put your best effort in because that is how things get done well and efficiently. And a positive attitude always helps.
What I loved most
While working at ATI, I kept hearing the words, “Oh that would be such a WOW!” or “Let’s create some WOW! Magic.” I was confused at first about what everyone was talking about, but soon realized what WOW! Magic was all about. It’s ATI’s Way of Working that focuses on FUN and Entertainment, always taking things to the next level to give those they serve and each other, Outrageously Memorable moments and Unique & Different opportunities through Extraordinary Customer Service. I saw this in many instances every single day. If it wasn’t someone trying to make a Guest, Student, Resident, or Colleague’s day better, it was someone planning a WOW! Magic event to bring happiness to the whole company. There was a constant want and need to bring happiness, fun, and love to all because Every Life Matters. You don’t always see these traits in other companies and that is what makes American Training so special to me.
What’s next
This experience has guided me in the direction of what I want to do in life. While I am still unsure of exactly what I want to do with my career, I now know I want to help people in any way possible. Whether that be occupational therapy, social work, or anything that helps others help themselves, I am totally in for it. I cannot thank American Training enough for this experience and showing me that Every Life Matters.
Samantha, we are so thankful to have had you this summer! We wish you all the best in all your future endeavors!
